Early access is officially over
RuneScape: Dragonwilds spent about a year and a half in early access before Jagex pulled the trigger on a full 1.0 launch on September 15, 2026. It's the co-op survival spin-off set on Ashenfall, RuneScape's long-forgotten continent where dragons have woken up and started causing problems, and by the time it hit 1.0 it had already crossed a million sales on Steam during the early access run alone.
What actually changed in the 1.0 update
The full release bundles in the new Scorned Wilderness update along with the previously-released Umbral Sands expansion, so anyone jumping in fresh gets the whole picture instead of a patchwork of DLC-sized drops. The core loop is still gather-build-skill-craft, playable solo or in four-person teams, fighting through classic RuneScape creatures plus newer additions like the Garou.
- Scorned Wilderness update included at launch
- Umbral Sands expansion folded into the base 1.0 experience
- Up to four-player co-op survival and crafting
- New enemies alongside RuneScape lore callbacks
The bigger news: consoles, finally
This is the first time a RuneScape game has launched simultaneously on PC and consoles. Alongside the Steam and Epic Games Store versions, Dragonwilds is now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, with crossplay across all of them so a PC group can still play with a friend on a console. It's also available day one through Xbox Game Pass, which is a pretty low-friction way to try a genre that usually asks for a full-price commitment upfront.

How it's actually landing
Steam reviews sit at Very Positive overall, with roughly 82 percent positive across nearly 24,000 reviews, and recent reviews are trending a bit lower at "Mostly Positive" for the last 30 days, which usually means some post-launch grumbling about balance or performance rather than a fundamental problem with the game. It's priced at $29.99 on Steam, standard for a survival-crafting game of this scope.
If you already like survival-crafting games and don't mind a slower, skill-based grind instead of pure base-building, Dragonwilds is worth a look now that it's out of early access limbo and your console-only friends can finally join in.
Our take
The real story here isn't the Scorned Wilderness content drop, it's Jagex shipping day-and-date on PS5, Xbox and Switch 2 with crossplay -- that's a bigger bet on Dragonwilds than most survival-crafting games get. A million early access sales is a solid base, but the genre is crowded and the recent-reviews dip to 'Mostly Positive' suggests the console version and the new content both need to land clean or that goodwill erodes fast.
