What is ARC Raiders?
ARC Raiders is a third-person multiplayer extraction shooter developed and published by Embark Studios, built in Unreal Engine 5 and released in October 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows. It is set on a near-future Earth devastated by a robotic invasion: hostile machines known as ARC drove humanity underground, and the remaining population survives in Toledo, a subterranean refuge beneath Italy's Rust Belt made up of independent communities called contradas. Players take the role of a raider from one of these communities who travels to the ruined surface, nicknamed "Topside," to scavenge old-world technology and salvage from downed ARC units. Each session centers on a timed raid across an open map, during which players loot resources and equipment while contending with both AI-controlled ARC machines and other human raiders, who can be either threats or incidental company. Anything carried must be hauled to an extraction point, such as an elevator, metro station, or air shaft, to be kept permanently; dying mid-raid strips a player of everything but a small reserved stash. Between raids, players return to base to sell loot, craft and upgrade weapons and gear, take on vendor-given objectives, and build out character skills, with harder night-time raids and weather events offering greater risk and reward. What sets ARC Raiders apart from similar extraction shooters is its deliberate balance between player-versus-player and player-versus-environment threats, reinforced by matchmaking that favors pairing solo players together and an adaptive ARC AI that reacts and flanks rather than simply attacking. The game has no traditional single-player campaign; it is played solo or in squads of two or three, with individual raids typically running around thirty minutes. It suits players drawn to tense, loot-driven multiplayer action and the genre's characteristic mix of planning, risk management, and improvisation under pressure.
