What is Resident Evil Requiem?
Resident Evil Requiem is a survival horror game and the ninth main entry in Capcom's long-running Resident Evil series, developed and published by Capcom for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows, and Nintendo Switch 2. Set in October 2026, nearly three decades after the destruction of Raccoon City, the story follows FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft as she investigates a string of deaths among Raccoon City survivors tied to a mysterious T-virus condition. After she is abducted by a former Umbrella scientist, she crosses paths with longtime series agent Leon S. Kennedy, and the two uncover a bioweapon connected to Grace's own hidden past. The campaign alternates between the two protagonists across locations including a derelict hotel, an abandoned care facility, and the ruins of Raccoon City itself. The core gameplay loop blends two distinct styles. Grace's sections favor tense, resource-scarce survival horror played by default in first person: she avoids a persistent stalking enemy, scavenges supplies, performs stealth takedowns, and drains corpses for crafting materials before they can reanimate. Leon's sections lean into third-person action, giving him firearms, a wear-prone hatchet, and more generous resources to fight tougher enemies and bosses directly. Players can freely switch between first- and third-person perspectives for either character. Progression is gated by item-based puzzles, backtracking, and limited inventory management, with an optional classic difficulty that brings back ink-ribbon saving for players who want added pressure. Requiem is single-player only, with no multiplayer or co-op modes; it was originally conceived as an online multiplayer project before Capcom shifted to a traditional single-player design. It is aimed at longtime Resident Evil fans and survival-horror players who enjoy a campaign mixing stealth-driven dread with combat-forward, third-person action.
