What is Portal 2?
Portal 2 is a single-player and cooperative first-person puzzle-platformer set in the Aperture Science research facility, a sprawling, decaying testing complex run by an artificial intelligence named GLaDOS. Players use a device called the Portal Gun, which creates linked portals on flat surfaces, to solve physics-based puzzles that require redirecting momentum, line of sight, and objects between two connected points in space. The single-player campaign follows Chell as she's pulled back into Aperture's test chambers, gradually uncovering the facility's history while solving increasingly elaborate portal puzzles involving lasers, energy pellets, gels with different physical properties, and moving platforms. Dialogue and environmental storytelling carry much of the narrative, with GLaDOS and other characters providing dry, often dark humor throughout. A separate cooperative campaign, played by two people online or locally, introduces a pair of robot characters and puzzles specifically designed around two sets of portals working together, requiring communication and timing between players rather than solo problem-solving. The single-player campaign runs roughly 8-10 hours, with the co-op campaign offering a similar length as a separate experience. Portal 2 suits players who enjoy methodical, physics-based puzzle design paired with strong writing, whether playing alone or with a partner.
