Mistfall Hunter launched back in July as Bellring Games' entry into the extraction-ARPG lane that Arc Raiders dragged into the mainstream — a third-person, PvPvE loot run built around six classes, two weapon stances apiece, and squads of up to three fighting through the fog for gear. Ten-ish weeks later the Steam tally sits right around "Mixed" territory, a shade over half the overall review base giving it a thumbs up. After going through the ten most recent user reviews, that label tracks almost exactly: six of the ten are positive, four aren't, and the split lines up with what's been happening to the overall score since launch rather than being some recent spike of outrage or hype. The combat has real fans. The game wrapped around it is still rough in a few places that matter.

Pros

  • The core gunplay and melee feel get consistently singled out. More than one recent reviewer compares the moment-to-moment combat favorably to Arc Raiders, calling the PvPvE loop tense and satisfying when a fight goes well.
  • Matches are quick. Several players specifically credit the fast pacing as the reason they kept queuing up, even ones who have complaints elsewhere in the same review.
  • No pay-to-win mechanics or paid stat boosts — the Digital Deluxe tier only adds cosmetics and a currency bundle, and nobody in the recent batch flagged monetization as a problem.
  • There's real staying power for people who click with it: among the ten reviews checked, several authors had logged well over 100 hours, including one past 200, and were still playing rather than writing a drive-by review after a single session.
  • The class-and-stance system gives squads room to mix roles without it turning into a stat-check — reviewers who praise the combat tend to specifically credit the variety between the six classes rather than just the shooting feel on its own.

Cons

  • Server lag is the single most repeated complaint in this batch, with specific call-outs on the Bardegard map. Multiple reviewers describe fights that feel good getting undercut by rough netcode.
  • More than one review asks for a dedicated PvE mode, feeling the PvPvE-only structure caps how long the current content can hold attention.
  • A vocal chunk of the negative reviews call the population "dead" and go after Bellring's balance patches directly — though several of those same accounts have thousands of minutes logged, which muddies the "dead game" framing a bit.
  • Content volume comes up again and again: players who've seen what's on offer are asking for more maps, modes, or long-term progression goals.
  • A couple of the negative reviews are blunt to the point of being more venting than critique ("don't buy this dead game"), which makes it harder to tell how widespread the underlying frustration really is versus a handful of loud voices.

Performance & PC

On paper the requirements are reasonable for a 2026 release: Steam lists a GTX 1060 / RX 580 and a Core i7-4770 / Ryzen 5 1400 with 12GB of RAM as the minimum, stepping up to an RTX 2070 / RX 5700 XT and 16GB RAM for the recommended tier, both running DirectX 12 off a 45GB install. It's Windows-only — there's no Mac or Linux support listed, and nothing in the recent reviews mentions Steam Deck behavior one way or the other.

The performance complaints that do show up are almost entirely about netcode rather than local stability — nobody in this batch mentioned crashes or freezes on their own machine, but the Bardegard lag issue comes up often enough, across multiple unrelated reviews, that it reads as a real, ongoing problem on Bellring's end rather than a one-off bad connection. That's a meaningfully different kind of problem than a shaky PC port, but it's also one players can't fix by upgrading their own hardware, which is probably why it shows up as a louder complaint than the spec sheet alone would suggest.

How it compares

ARC Raiders is the obvious point of comparison, and reviewers bring it up unprompted — it's the slicker, better-funded take on the same PvPvE extraction idea, with less server grief reported at this point in its life.

WARDOGS is a rougher-edged comparison: another Early Access multiplayer shooter working through the same kind of population and stability growing pains that show up in Mistfall Hunter's recent reviews.

Dimraeth sits closer on the ARPG side of the fence — class-and-build-focused rather than extraction-focused, still in Early Access itself, but a reasonable alternative for players who want the loot-and-build itch scratched without the PvP pressure that seems to be driving a lot of Mistfall Hunter's frustration.

Summary

Mistfall Hunter's combat does what it's supposed to do, and the people who've put serious hours in are proof the core loop has legs — this isn't a game limping along on a handful of diehards. But the recent reviews paint a game that hasn't nailed down its servers and hasn't yet given squads enough to do between fights, and a dedicated PvE mode plus a real fix for the Bardegard lag would go a long way toward closing that "Mixed" gap. At $24.99, with no pay-to-win nonsense anywhere in sight, it's not a ripoff, and three-person squads who already own it clearly aren't struggling to find things to do with their time. It's just not quite worth full price yet for someone coming in cold, while the server complaints and the content-gap complaints are both this visible in the same batch of reviews. Worth watching, worth playing with friends if it's already in your library, but a reasonable one to let simmer until a patch or a sale narrows the gap between what it promises and what it's currently delivering.
